The Atlantic City Police Department, NJ, released body-worn camera video of one of its officers breaking through a door to enter a smoke-filled home to save a teenage girl and the family pets.
Officer Riley Flynn was patrolling on May 26 when he observed a commotion outside of a residence just before 1 a.m., the police department said. He soon noticed smoke coming from the home, and a person hanging out of a second-floor window.
He kicked in the front door and entered the smoke-filled residence and proceeded upstairs, where he found the 17-year-old girl near a bathroom window.
“Come here, come here, come on,” he told the teen. “Let’s go.”
After leading the girl to safety, Flynn returned inside the home to rescue the family pets — three dogs and one cat.
The Atlantic City Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire that originated in the kitchen. Both the officer and the teen were checked out by medical personnel at the scene, police said.
“I commend Officer Flynn for his quick actions in not only rescuing a teenager, but also going back inside to rescue the animals who I know are part of their family,” said Police Chief James Sarkos .
